Deepcut Privacy Policy
Last updated October 11, 2026
The short version
Your guesses, grids, and streaks stay on your device. The app sends pseudonymous usage events to our own service to help us improve it. These are sent by default and are not linked to your name or email address. We keep them for two calendar years.
Information we collect
Your guesses, player names, puzzle answers, saved grids, and streaks stay on your device. Deepcut sends event names and outcomes to our analytics service by default; there is no in-app setting to turn this off. Examples include screens viewed, daily and archive puzzle starts and completions, results shared, paywall and archive offers, purchase outcomes, and reliability events. Events include a random installation ID, random session and event IDs, public puzzle date and sport, game mode, score, app version, broad device type, iOS version, and times. We do not send guessed player names, puzzle answers, grid contents, share text, receipts, contacts, precise location, or advertising identifiers.
The installation ID links events from the same app installation. It is pseudonymous, not fully anonymous. The service receives the IP address needed to handle a request; short-lived hashed address data helps limit abuse. We do not use this data for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Device permissions
Deepcut does not request any device permissions.
Subscriptions & payments
Deepcut offers in-app purchases. All purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. We never see or store your payment details. Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Third-party services
Deepcut uses our own analytics collector, hosted by Railway, with a dedicated Deepcut database, rather than a third-party analytics SDK. Apple handles app delivery, in-app purchases. We do not share usage events with advertisers or data brokers.
Puzzle data sources
Pro Basketball player and team data draws on Wikipedia and is adapted into a searchable game database. Wikipedia content is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
Data retention
Your guesses, player names, puzzle answers, saved grids, and streaks remain on your device. Unsent usage events older than seven days are discarded when the app next runs. We retain received usage events for two calendar yearsafter receipt and delete them through scheduled cleanup. Deleting the app stops new collection from that installation. To ask for earlier deletion, email privacy@ginsberg.ai with the analytics support ID shown in Deepcut Settings.
Children's privacy
Deepcut is not directed to children under 13. We do not use usage events to advertise to or profile children.
Your rights
Usage events are tied to a random installation ID, not your name or account. For access or deletion requests, copy the analytics support ID in Deepcut Settings and email it to privacy@ginsberg.ai. We cannot identify an installation from a name or email address alone.
